MECHANICAL ENGINEERING COMPANIES IN MIDLAND/SAGINAW/BAY CITY, MI?

I only graduated from the University of Michigan with the BS in automatic engineering. I’m relocating to the Midland, Michigan area as well as I’m carrying the difficult time anticipating practice (surprise surprise). Most of the stream jobs have been for containing alkali engineers - not mechanical. Anybody know of any great companies in the area? I’ve already looked during Dow Chemical, Dow Corning/HSC, as well as Consumers Energy (and have looked during all the vital career poke sites) though haven’t had any fitness yet.

I’m removing married, so “move somewhere else” isn’t an option. Nor is “join the military.”

I’m not asking for the pursuit (although which would be nice!) - I’m only seeking for companies to investigate.

Thanks!

    Matt,

I’ve been layed off since the end of September , 2008 as a Mechanical Engineer with 25 + years of experience, automotive background. Since I’ve been looking for a job as well - go look at the following Web-Sites and adjust the Key words and locations to help you focus what you are interested in and possibly where. It’ll give you a clue as to where more jobs are located based on the hits that show up. Don’t be stuck in a particular city. I’ve had to move around in my career from Cleveland to Charlotte, NC, to Michigan myself. With Michigan’s unemployment at 14 % ( 1 in 7 out of work) think twice about staying in there. Don’t limit yourself by absolutely having to have to stay in Midland, unless you can help it.

Start your own business. You can do it. I never had the opportunity you have had. I have always wanted a mechanical engineering degree. I went to a year of refrigeration school. When I was 22 years old I studied and obtained my c-38 contractors license. I then got a pair of slacks a dress shirt and a couple of ties. With a little research and motivation I won several accounts with several corporate chains throughout central California and the Bay area.
A dumb hick country boy from a small town of 5,000 people did it. With no sales experience and no degree. Do it now while you are young.

Just remember to stay positive. “Can’t never did do nothing”.
“people buy from people” go shake the hands that shake the world.
I am 38 now. The education I have received from experience has been an extremely valuable asset. Go to those plants, get in there and ask questions.
Set appointments with the plant engineers, smile, get to know the people that do this as a career. If you keep your eyes and ears open opportunity will knock.
